Dholera, a place in Gujarat about 100 Kms away from Ahmedabad enroute to Bhavnagar, an ancient flourishing port for decades is located in the Gulf of Khambhat (Cambay). Dholera Port lost its importance post formation of Maharashtra and Gujarat as independent States. Today, Dholera Port needs improvisation and modernization, though minor porting activities at are still active.

Due to proximity to the sea, semi arid land at Dholera is left with little or no scope for agriculture which prompted the development and growth of industries for Optimum use of this area. With the need to modernize the nation, its building capacity and the required infrastructure development, the Central Government of India has decided to build Dholera Metro City (as announced in Budget 2013 by the Finance Minister) which is strategically connected to the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). More than 40 % of the DMIC extends in the State of Gujarat. Moreover, the current Finance Minister, in the 2014 Union Budget, has sanctioned the Dholera project US$ 500 Million as a preliminary corpus.

Credit goes to the Gujarat State Govt. for recognizing the infrastructural & developmental needs early on, setting up policies and implementing them to convert Gujarat State into an “Investor friendly” zone. The State Govt. has partnered with the proposed DMIC project and also set up a Special Investment Region (SIR) in Dholera.

 

The Key Projects at Dholera

• 32 Kms long Kalpasar Dam Alignment Project to be built at an expense of approx. Rs.50000 crore which shall provide water supply to the DHOLERA S.I.R& connect Surat - Bhavnagar via Sea Link reducing distance by 200 Kms.
• DHOLERA S.I.R. To be developed as an all new city near Ahmedabad with world class infrastructure, healthcare, education, hospitality, tourism, Hi-tech Industrial Parks, SEZ’s & Residential Zones with Premium Civic Amenities.

Development to this Dholera Metro City & Dholera S.I.R. to be partnered by countries like Japan, Canada, France & Singapore.
